Ze June 2011

Date(s) of project: May 10-June 1, 2011

Brief description of Project:

The volunteer painted a .5-meter diameter globe made of cement for her local CEG. The globe was placed under the flag in the CEG courtyard. It was a twist on the World Map project many volunteers do, in an attempt to improve students’ understanding of the globe. For many Beninese, adults and students alike, their only conception of the world is that of the standard Africa-centered grid map, which doesn’t allow them to comprehend that, for instance, the United States and Japan are not far from one another. This globe will hopefully help with this comprehension.
