PCV 9 April 2010

Brief Project Description:
I am working on beginning a garden at the local orphanage. It is run by the non-governmental organization ASPAD: Association pour la Survie et la Promotion des Adolescents Déshérités. I have been told there are 18 children currently living there, but so far I have worked directly with eight kids. The so far the orphanage has shown excellent motivation and the garden beds are completely prepared, waiting for seeds to plant. The garden will be there to provide food and nutritional variation to the children’s diet, but if there is more produce available than they can eat they will sell it and use profits to buy corn flour. We have discussed what vegetables the children would like to have: carrots, onions, lettuce, cucumber, green beans, beets, gboma, hot pepper, eggplant, tomatoes and cabbage.

Comments

GAD Coordinator: need to know the gender and age breakdown of the kids involved. Is there an HCN also involved? Otherwise, sounds like a fund project. Recommend funding if questions answered.
GAD Finance: An awareness session on the importance of nutrition could be beneficial. Recommend funding.
