Proposal
Post: Bohicon
Date(s) of project: January 23rd-29th, 2012
Brief description of Project:
The funds from this GSP, if approved, will be used to fund the first ever nutritional recuperation program in Bohicon to take place in January. If successful, as anticipated, the community will have a boost in confidence and moral with the program and will more than likely fund all future nutritional recuperation programs that we intend to continue by dividing the costs among participating mothers and/or soliciting donations from the local government. Right now, we are collecting information at each of the nine baby weighings that we perform each month to see which children are high risk with severe malnutrition and which children are at risk of becoming severely malnourished. We will then invite up to 50 children with their mothers to participate in our nutritional recuperation program. This program will last for 7 days. On day one, we will take the weight of all the children. Each day, we will continue weighing the babies and the mothers will actively learn and prepare a wholly nutritious meal, designed to recuperate their malnourished child up to the age of 5 years. The program will start at 10am every day with brief sensibilisations about the main ingredient of that day. Then the mothers will prepare the food alongside my work partners and myself. After the meal is finished, they will feed it to their child while we discuss the importance of avoiding force-feeding. On the last day, we will take a final weight of the children to show the mother’s how much their child has improved to encourage them to maintain a similar program at home with all of their children. Note: We will have an emphasis on Moringa during this event, but the Moringa will be donated by a community member.
